CD: Sesame Street Playground

Putumayo Kids Presents: Sesame Street Playground
Various Artists

Be it Hong Kong, New York, or Moscow
Every town has a street with this name
Every town has a chorus of children
Different tunes with a single refrain

They say the days are sunny
They say the air is sweet
Can you tell me how to find it –
This place called “Sesame Street”?

Note: We love Putumayo Kids and mornings will find us jamming to one of their CD’s. Santa was kind enough to put the Sesame Street collection under our ficus tree – we didn’t get around to the official evergreen this year – and it’s been in the CD player ever since.

It should be no surprise that few of these songs from around the world are in English, but that hasn’t stopped us from singing them at the top of our lungs. The songs are all super-catchy. Nick has fixated on En Den Dino from Israel. My favorite is Ricas Frutas out of Mexico, while Lori is partial to Gali Gali Sim Sim from India – perhaps because of the Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack.

In addition to the CD, there’s also a 5-song DVD that has subtitles available so you have some idea of what you’re singing. And there’s a “Repeat All” button – trust me, you’ll be using it.

Bonus: Ever notice the similarities between Petula Clark’s “I Know A Place” and the Sesame Street opening theme?

No, I don’t why I notice these things either.
