Book: Leaves

by David Ezra Stein

Flaming crown
Reigning down
Red, yellow, golden brown

Slumbering near
Bearly there
Drifting, dreaming, silent prayer

Note: David Ezra Stein won the Ezra Jack Keats New Writer Award for this gentle meditation on changing seasons. It’s similar to Old Bear in plot – leaves fall, bear sleeps, bear wake up for spring – but has less text than Fletcher and the Falling Leaves.

Good to know if you’re trying to steer your kiddo to a shorter bedtime story because, oh, well, it’s 9PM and you have no idea how it got so late, but your kiddo still insists that you read to them, and guilt will consume you if you don’t.

Not that this has ever happened to me…

Bonus: Check out this interview with the man himself.
