There once was a bat Stellaluna
Who flew by the light of the moon
Her first sisters and brothers
Were replace by bat others
An event which proved most opportune
Note: We don’t have to go down to the Shedd Aquarium to see bats. They like to hang out right here in Rogers Park, which is very convenient for Halloween.
Janell Cannon‘s marvelous book is a visual treat. The “you-are-who-you-are” message isn’t too heavy-handed, and it’s tempered with an “even-though-we’re-different-we-can-all-get-along” ending. Plus, there’s enough humor to keep little ones (and not-so-little ones) engaged.
Bonus: There’s also a 2-page fact sheet all about bats at the end of the book. Imagine actually learning something while reading to your kiddos.
