Book: A New Barker in the House

Marky Marcos
Had a funky bunch
A brother and sister
Who were pleased as punch
To welcome another –
“Oh boy, a new brother!”
And imagined great fun at lunch

But Moffie and Margie
Made an assumption
Which offended Marky
With its conspicuous consumption
“It’s all about me!”
It isn’t you see
When a family expands thru adoption

Note: This is a GREAT book if you are adopting an older child or adopting a child from another country (and already have kids). Moffie and Margie are very realistic in their excitement about their new brother, Marcos, and their oversight in wanting to show him everything that they like without first asking what he likes. As a bonus, since Marcos only speaks Spanish, there’s an English-Spanish glossary on the first page.

Author/illustrator Tomie De Paola has — are you sitting down for this — over 200 books to his credit. And of course, his list of awards is several pages long.
