Book: The Enormous Crocodile

In the pantheon of Picture Book Protagonists, few sit higher than Bunny. Be he a runaway, made of velveteen, or a trespasser in Mr. McGregor’s field, he will always be loved (to the moon and back).

The crocodile is another story. Oh sure, Lyle made a good showing, but his New York city antics pale in comparison to those of the Enormous Crocodile whose raison d’etre is eating small children.

Snakes run a close second. It all started in that garden…

Note: Roald Dahl had one twisted imagination – and I mean that in the best possible way. He understood how kids think and certainly never sugar-coated the world for his readers (not even in a chocolate factory).

Incidentally he also wrote the screenplay for one of my favorite movies – Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
