The Persuasive Pigeon

He begged
He pleaded
He desperately needed
To drive
The bus

He wailed
He whined
He wanted this time
To drive
The bus

He bargained
He pouted
He screamed then shouted
To drive
The bus

He sighed
He bowed
He was not allowed
To drive
The bus

Note: Deep introspection may be a lot to ask of toddlers, but you’ll find they have a lot in common with this pigeon protagonist. This bird is pretty persuasive, but kiddos seem to take great delight in telling him, “NO!”.

(Gee, I wonder where they get that from.)

Author/Illustrator (and Caldecott winner) Mo Willems has a gift for understanding what’s important to toddlers, which is probably why his books are so insanely popular.
